Lee Wetherington Receives Community Service Award in Recognition of Work with Harvest House

On Wednesday, May 3, the Jewish Family & Children’s Service of the Suncoast (JFCS) presented Lee Wetherington a Tribute to Veterans Service to Community Award in recognition of his invaluable work with Harvest House.

In 2016, Lee Wetherington teamed with Harvest House and the Community Foundation of Sarasota to buy and renovate nine foreclosed duplexes, which were then decorated with furniture donated by the LW Foundation. Named Lee Wetherington Family Village, the duplexes are now a transitional home for 18 would-be homeless families, many of which are veterans.

Having served as a Sargent in the US Marine Corps, Lee Wetherington has made it a priority to contribute to the welfare of veterans and the overall community. Lee Wetherington’s partnership with Harvest House dates back to 2002 and includes projects such as the renovation of the Roy McBean Boys & Girls Club, as well as the Manatee County Boys & Girls Club.

Now in its fifth year, the Tribute to Veterans Service to Community Awards are presented to veterans who “inspire patriotism, provide service to others, and offer hope to other veterans.” In addition to Lee Wetherington, JFCS honored C.J. Bannister, Don Courtney, Todd Hughes, and George P. Tracy at this year’s luncheon.

Beyond recognizing those who perform charitable works, the JFCS strives to positively impact lives through the organizations own work. In order to help veterans maintain stable housing, the JFCS Operation Military Assistance Program provides case management and financial assistance to low-income veterans and their families.
